In under a decade, Welspun Advanced Textiles has established a distinct identity in India’s rapidly evolving technical textiles landscape. What began as a focused diversification into nonwovens has today become one of the country’s most advanced businesses in Spunlace, Needlepunch and high-performance conversion technologies. The division serves leading customers across India, the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and the Middle East, firmly positioning itself as a global solutions partner.

Its rise reflects Welspun’s manufacturing discipline, investment in world-class technology and a strategic focus on high-value applications. At Techtextil India, one of the most recognised platforms for technical textiles, the company showcased not only its breadth of capabilities but its confidence as a high-performance supplier. As Mr. Kiran Warrier, Global Category Head – Advanced Textiles, noted, “This is still a young and emerging business within Welspun, but one that is scaling rapidly with a clear focus: high-quality, high-performance and specialised applications where customers demand reliability, consistency and sustainable innovation.”
Building a high-performance Nonwovens business from the ground up
Welspun Advanced Textiles was established with a clear understanding that markets would increasingly favour fabrics with technical functionality across hygiene, personal care, home care, automotive, filtration and industrial use cases. Its foundation rests on three key pillars: Spunlace, Needlepunch and thermal bonding, supported by integrated wet wipes and sheet mask conversion.

Today, the company operates India’s largest Spunlace capacity of over 27,000 MTs per annum, with advanced European lines capable of producing a wide GSM range. Its Needlepunch facility manufactures fabrics from 60 to 800 GSM, including inherently flame-retardant fibres used in protective apparel and industrial applications. Additionally, its conversion lines support large-scale manufacturing for baby wipes, cosmetic sheet masks and wellness products. These capabilities enable Welspun to offer consistent quality, technical reliability and strong service to customers across both domestic and international markets.
Technology as a Strategic Lever for Quality and Expansion
A defining strength of Welspun Advanced Textiles is its deliberate investment in globally benchmarked technology. Its Telangana facility, one of the most advanced in India, houses a high-speed Andritz European Spunlace line and modern conversion infrastructure.

Beyond Spunlace and Needlepunch, the business has expanded into printing, dyeing and coating for dry wipes, food-service dry wipes, cosmetic masks and other specialty fabrics. This has supported the development of differentiated solutions across hygiene, wellness, beauty and industrial segments. “The technology backbone is one of our biggest strengths,” Mr. Warrier explained. “Customers trust us because they know the equipment we use, and they know we can deliver consistent performance year after year.”
Welspun’s commitment to quality has been recognised through industry accolades, including the MATEXIL award for Top Exporter of the Year in blended fabrics, reaffirming the company’s reliability in global markets.
A Disciplined, Specialised Market Approach
Rather than participating in price-sensitive, low-margin products, Welspun has stayed firmly committed to specialised, high-value segments where performance, consistency and technical assurance matter more than price.

“Our strategy is to pick those application segments where performance, quality and reliability matter,” Mr. Warrier said. “That is where global customers engage deeply with suppliers, and that is where Welspun has built its advantage.” This clarity has enabled the company to build strong partnerships with leading hygiene, personal care and beauty brands in India as well as large-format retailers and specialised manufacturers globally.
Even in periods of trade shifts or tariff-driven changes in certain markets, Welspun’s diversified global presence has allowed it to maintain stability and customer reach.
Balanced Domestic and International Footprint
Welspun Advanced Textiles maintains a healthy mix of domestic and export business. Roughly one-third of its business today comes from India, with the remaining two-thirds spread across key international destinations. This balanced presence allows the company to stay resilient even in periods of global uncertainty. “Whether it is Spunlace, Needlepunch or our converted products, the domestic market is extremely important for us,” Mr. Warrier explained. “At the same time, our export capabilities give us scale, quality benchmarks and global relevance.”
Today, any consumer familiar with baby wipes or cosmetic sheet masks in India would likely be using a product manufactured by Welspun, reflecting its strong conversion capability and trusted partnerships with brands such as Himalaya, Unilever and Unicharm.
Sustainability as a Core Operating Principle
Sustainability is embedded into Welspun’s manufacturing philosophy. Across facilities, the company emphasises energy efficiency, responsible chemical management, recycling and water conservation. Its Anjar site operates one of the textile industry’s largest water treatment and reuse systems.
On the product front, Welspun has built the capability to process a wide range of sustainable fibres such as viscose, cotton and bamboo alongside man-made fibres. This allows customers to choose solutions that meet both performance needs and sustainability commitments. “It’s a balance between functional requirements and sustainability,” Mr. Warrier noted. “Wherever possible, we innovate to use more sustainable fibres, and we work closely with customers to support their sustainability goals.”
By combining technological excellence with sustainable practices and global customer engagement, Welspun is not only shaping the future of nonwovens in India but also positioning itself among the most respected advanced textiles players on the global stage.
