A new state-of-the-art meltblown production line is in the offing at Freudenberg Performance Material’s Kaiserslautern facility. The addition will house production line for nonwoven fabrics exclusively used to make face masks of mouth-nose protection category pursuant to the EN14683 standard and FFP1, 2 and 3 masks. The material will be specially developed for and sold to the medical technology processing industry.
Freudenberg produces these materials from extremely fine meltspun polypropylene microfibres that are several times thinner than the human hair.
Dr. Frank Heislitz, CEO – Freudenberg Performance Materials shares: “We have the deep expertise in manufacturing materials for certified face masks. By expanding our production capacity at Kaiserslautern, we are contributing to master the challenges presented by the COVID virus and supplying the FFP1, 2 and 3 masks in Germany and rest of the Europe.”
The masks made out of these nonwovens are capable of filtering out micro particles owing to the superfine structure of the material and its electrostatic charge.
The commissioning of the new plant is slated for the Q1 of 2021.
