Technical Textiles is diverse and encompasses of 12 segments, depending on the characteristics, functional requirement and end use applications. Under the Scheme for Growth and Development of Technical Textiles (SGDTT), launched during 2007-08, the Govt set up four Centers of Excellence to provide support to the manufacturers of the identified segments of the technical textiles industry.

Northern India Textile Research Association has been designated as a Centre of Excellence for Protective Textiles by the Ministry of Textiles. It has expertise and technical capability for quality evaluation, product development and knowledge dissemination in the field of protective textiles.
The Indian Technical Textile association (ITTA) is the only association of the technical textile industry in the country with over 300 members. ITTA membership represent the entire technical textile value chain from raw material, roll goods to finished goods products covering all segments of technical textiles, machinery manufactures, consultants, COEs and R&D institution. ITTA was facilitated by the office of the Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India in the year 2010. ITTA is dedicated to members’ success and aims to become the premier organization that represents and sets the tone for public policy for the Indian technical industry by becoming ‘ITS Singular Voice’ and bringing together all the stakeholders of the sector under one roof.
TN Govt signs up for Techtextil India 2021 for technical textile investments
In a bid to strengthen indigenous production through the state and attract investors, the nodal agency for investment promotion and facilitation for the Government of Tamil Nadu – Guidance has signed up for Techtextil India 2021 – the leading International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens. The TN Government will be promoting technical textile policies through both physical and virtual segments of the hybrid fair, enabling investors to set up integrated facilities. Leading technical textile players from Tamil Nadu and across the nation confirm participation for the three-day business event. With 50% of India’s textile mills in Tamil Nadu and complementary clusters of knitting, weaving and medical devices manufacturing in Coimbatore, and Tiruppur, the region provides immense opportunities for Meditech investments.
